Thousand Islands Holds Cultural Tradition Event

The Thousand Islands Regency Government is holding a Cultural Tradition event at Tidung Island Square, South Thousand Islands, from Saturday (28/10) to Sunday (29/10) tomorrow.

According to Thousand Islands Regent Junaedi, the Culture Sub-department initiated the event to preserve local culture while welcoming the 22nd Anniversary of Thousand Islands Regency, which coincides with Youth Pledge Day.

"This activity is also our gratitude," he expressed Saturday (10/28).

Exploring and preserving local wisdom, he continued, is expected to bring the potential of Thousand Islands to be more developed, advanced, successful, and prosperous. Development in the Thousand Islands is ongoing; with that, the islanders are not much different from those on the mainland.

"I thank you, hopefully this two-day celebration will run smoothly, even activities like this can continue every year. Hopefully, the local wisdom culture of Thousand Islands will continue to be explored and visible to the public," he said.

Head of the Thousand Islands Culture Sub-department, Tony Bako, added that the Thousand Islands Cultural Tradition Celebration was the culmination of a series of cultural training, development, and protection activities in the Thousand Islands Regency. This year's celebration was held on Tidung Island with the theme 'Napak Tilas Kisah Kehidupan King Pandita' (Traces the Life Story of King Pandita).

"This annual event is always enlivened by residents from six urban villages, with approximately 600 participants," he said.

Tony explained the series of activities featured a colossal drama of King Pandita from Tidung land, then performances of local dance and music groups, parades from elements of the Island community, silat action, and mass dance.

In addition, there are health checks for the community from the Health Office, a bazaar for assisted MSMEs, and cultural exhibitions from the Maritime Museum.

Then, there is a typical Thousand Islands batik activity with Batik Gobang, a Thousand Islands seafood cooking competition, and a ship decorating contest, each followed by 12 groups.

"We also launched the Thousand Islands Local History book, especially about the story of King Pandita leading in Tidung Island. Hopefully, this activity can be the foundation of the progress of the Thousand Islands," he said.
