The Taste of Lumpang Cake and Cawan Cake

The Betawi community has a vast wealth of culinary varieties. Some cakes taste sweet and delicious from Betawi snacks that are pretty famous, called Lumpang cakes and Cupcakes (Cawan cake).

Called ‘Kue Lumpang,’ it is said to be taken from the shape of the cake, which is shaped like a mortar.

Usually, this cake is only made when there is an order or during certain events.

Apart from Lumpang cakes, Betawi snacks, also known as Cupcakes. This cake is similar to the Lumpang cake, but there are additions to the ingredients for making it.

The cupcakes are added with suji pandan leaves so they have a greenish color.

Cupcake is made by printing them with a cup-like container, which is called a cupcake.

Ingredients:

  • Rice flour.
  • Sago.
  • Old coconut.
  • Salt.
  • Brown sugar.
  • Pandan Leaf (cupcake; no pandan leaves).

 

How to make:

  • Sugar is cooked and then filtered.
  • Flour is prepared, salted to taste, brewed with hot water, and mixed with cooled brown sugar. Then stir until it becomes a runny dough.
  • Add pandan suji leaves (Cupcake; no need to add pandan leaves).
  • It is then printed into small bowl molds smeared with oil.
  • It is steamed until cooked.
