Sahibu Hikayat; Nurlaila Jinn’s Daughter (1)

Sahibul Hikayat is an oral tradition whose activities are carried out with a specific purpose and intention.

The storyteller who brings sahibul hikayat is deliberately considered to bring a particular story. Usually, the story that is performed comes from the 1001 Night Hikayat.

Famous storytellers include Haji Ja'far, Haji Ma'ruf, and Haji Ja'it.

The following is an excerpt from the story Nurlaila Jinn’s Daughter, which is usually performed by Haji Muhammad Zahid or Haji Ja'it.

Once upon a time, said in the hikayat of the poet who owns the story, in the continent of the country of Sharkistaniyah, there sat a reigning king, whose name was His Majesty King Malik Ibrohim. And His Majesty Malik Ibrohim, said in the hikayat, already had a son or crown prince named Tajul Arifin. It is said in the hikayat that this crown prince has become a young man or a teenage boy, and he looks as handsome as he is dashing.

We do not tell the length of the crown prince.
Now we tell the situation of Tuan Baginda Raja Malik Ibrohim, sitting with his queen while talking to find a life partner for his son, Tajul Arifin. So the King spoke with his Empress.

King: My dear

Empress: What's up, dear

King: Look, dear, I've been wanting to talk about our son in Tajul Arifin.

Empress: Uh dear, what's wrong with our son, dear? He's bald because he plays soccer in Petak Sinkian; what's wrong?

King: My dear, Tajul's head is bald, no, not because of the ball. The problem is this. Our children are now growing up. Moreover, they're only twenty-five. It's not appropriate for them to be pitted against each other.

Empress: How are you pitted? Is Tajul has turned into a cricket or something?

King: Honey, being pitted is a personal preference; it means finding a wife, that's it...

Empress: Honey, I thought our son was just a kid, but I didn't know he was looking for a wife. You helped me find the proper virgin to be Tajul's partner. Just pay attention to this, dear. Today's children are different, so it's not a good idea to ask Tajul first. Understandably, we as parents will be blamed. It's better to ask him first what he wants.
