Hundreds of Students Go on a History Tour to the Maritime Museum and Betawi Cultural Village

Three hundred fifty students and teachers in Central Jakarta were invited to a historical tour of the Maritime Museum in North Jakarta and Setu Babakan, South Jakarta.

This activity was held to enliven the Mandatory Visiting Historic Objects in the 2023 program held by the Central Jakarta Culture Sub-Department.

Central Jakarta Mayor Dhany Sukma said in this activity that students were invited to the Maritime Museum to see the forerunner of Sunda Kelapa Port, a spice warehouse in the Dutch East Indies era.

"The Maritime Museum is also the forerunner of the naming of Jakarta. Then, on July 7, 1977, the warehouse was turned into a museum until today," he expressed Tuesday (9/26).

Dhany continued that the students were also invited to the Betawi Cultural Village (PBB) Setu Babakan during the activity. The goal is that this nation's next generation remember the Betawi customs identical to recitation, prayer, and martial arts.

"Therefore, we need to recognize one of the Betawi figures, Pitung," he said.

He hoped the 2023 Mandatory Visit Historic Objects program could strengthen the cultural character in Jakarta. Moreover, the city will relinquish its status as the National Capital and turn into a global city.

"Even though it is moved, it will not erase history," he said.

Meanwhile, Head of the Cultural Protection Section of Central Jakarta Cultural Sub-department Mohammad Amin added this activity was attended by 350 participants consisting of 300 junior high school students and 50 supervising teachers.

"All of them are from Central Jakarta Region 1 and 2 Education Sub-agencies," he explained.

Amin expressed this program aims to instill the value of nationalism, culture, and knowledge that must be preserved.

"We hope these students will grow into a generation with local culture," he stated.
