Hikayat Merpati Mas and Merpati Perak is an adventure story in prose written by Muhammad Bakir in 1887 in Pecenongan. This saga is stored in the National Library with the code ML 249. The Hikayat Merpati Mas and Merpati Perak manuscripts are a continuation of the Hikayat Nakhoda Asyik.

The saga of Merpati Mas and Merpati Perak begins with the story of King Sahriyuna who reigns in the land of Bandburi. He has a daughter named Budi Wangi. This princess has a gold peacock who is good at talking and rhyming. King Sahriyuna has an older brother named Bujangga Tala, who lives in Kanca Wanis village, Negeri Pura Nurani, with his wife and two sons, Merpati Mas and Merpati Perak.

Bujangga Tala's family lives in hardship. To support their families, Merpati Mas and Merpati Perak caught beautiful feathered birds and sell them in the land of Pura Nurani. The country was ruled by King Sunca Rama, who had a daughter named Sari Rasmi. While selling the birds, Merpati Perak fell in love with Sari Rasmi.

Meanwhile, in the Land of Bandburi, a flood disaster occurred which destroyed the entire country. The king was swept away by the current and stranded in the middle of the forest. The princess, Budi Wangi, and two ladies-in-waiting took shelter in a large pearl shell and survived the flood. The pearl skin sank in the water and after the water recedes, it fell to the bottom of a pond.

The disaster that befell the land of Banduburi was a punishment from God because Sahriyuna took a throne that was not his right. Supposedly, Bujangga Tala as the eldest brother, had the right to be king, not his brother Sahriyuna. After the accident, Sahriyuna decided to meditate under the big tree of Gampa Anih-Anih.

Knowing that there was a big disaster in the land of Banduburi, Bujangga Tala visited the land that had been destroyed by the flood. He recognized his own homeland and dug through the ground to find remnants of the kingdom. He moved there with his wife and children. Valuable items were found very much, then they were sold by his two children.

They sold jewelry to the land of the Purani and were arrested for allegedly stealing princess jewellery. When Sunca King Rama found out they were not thieves, they were released. From the results of trading these goods, they built a new country which was named the land of Padang Temurat.

Merpati Perak intends to take revenge for the humiliation of King Sunca Rama by attacking the land of Pura Nurani, but Bujangga Tala is prevented from doing so. They then wrote a letter to the king with the intention of applying for Sari Rasmi to be paired with Merpati Mas. However, the application was rejected and a great war broke out between the State of Pura Nurani and the State of Padang Temurat.

The war ended with the victory of the land of Padang Temurat. Sunca King Rama who was caught was treated with respect. The Merpati Perak and Sari Rasmi were married and King Sunca Rama returned to his country. Bujangga Tala has the title of Raja Garu Mahsan, while Merpati Mas and Merpati Perak have given birth names to Patih Mas and Patih Perak. Until the end of the story, Merpati Mas never revealed the secret about Putri Budi Wangi who was hiding in a pearl shell. The secret was only known to him and the Merpati Perak. This story has a connection that was once written by Muhammad Bakir with the title Hikayat Asma Tuturan, but the script has now been lost.
