Bro Senan to Mecca
The work of S.M. Ardan quoted from Terang Bulan Terang di Kali, published 1957
Bro Senan came outside, stirred a glass of milky coffee, and then placed it on the table near Karim.
"When do you start school again?"
"Monday."
"Monday eni?!"
"No, another Monday. Next Monday."
"Oh, same; my son is also starting to join. That Monday."
Karim put down the glass he had just sipped from:
"Got a place?"
"Got it. But I really want to study the Quran."
Karim was a bit surprised: "You're not going to do it?!"
"So. It's just that I have a point. I plan to have my son go to school until second grade or third grade. Don't do anything about it."
And Karim was even more astonished: "How so?!"
"But I want to teach him the right way. You want to continue until you graduate to wherever you like. In short, if you're still strong enough, you'll pay for it, even if you have to save money. As long as he is right."
Karim did not take a sip from the glass he had raised.
"You're just doing the Quran, Bro Senan."
"Go to school too, but save up for fourth grade; that's enough. Don't be so stupid. High in school, so it's not right for anything; try it. You know how kids nowadays forget to play games—missing worship. Watch! Go for a walk!"
Karim put down the glass he had been holding.
"It's not all like that."
"Iye. But if it's going to be bad, it's better to learn the Quran. It's better to go to the madrassa. Hold on to the game."
With a smile, Karim sipped his coffee, which was no longer hot.
The wisdom of the story:
General education is essential, but it must be accompanied by religious education. So that children are not only clever, intelligent and agile, but also do not forget religion.
