Hikayat Purusara: The Story of a Hermit

Hikayat Purasara is a wayang story script in the form of prose in Malay with Arabic-Jawi script. It is not known who the author of this Hikayat is. It's just that on every page there are many signatures of Muhammad Bakir. This is as a proof this manuscript belongs to him. However, from the handwritten Arabic-Jawi script it is certain that this manuscript was copied by Muhammad Bakir.

Hikayat Purasara tells the story of a pair of humans, namely Sakkara and Dewi Ismaya who were created by Sanghyang Tunggal, and then sent to earth. Sang Hyang Tunggal also came down to earth and then transformed into Semar. Semar then created Garubuk and Anggalia, his own children.

Meanwhile Sakkara and Dewi Ismaya have children named Purasara, Sentanu and Sambirawa. As adults, Sentanu and Purasara went on a journey. After hundreds of years of being left wandering by their two children, Sentanu and Purasara, Sakkara and Dewi Ismaya had a daughter named Dewi Sri Wati. Dewi Sri Wati was married to Sentanu who had returned from his journey.

Sakkara returned to heaven and was replaced by Sentanu as king, while Purasara meditated on various mountains. When Purasara went to meditate on Mount Parasu, Batara Guru was worried that he would become more powerful than all the gods. So Batara Guru sent various messengers to prevent Purasara from completing his meditation.

During his meditation, Purasara was attacked by four giants, and was blocked by four wild beasts. In addition to other temptations, Purasara was seduced by four beautiful angels. But he can still practice his hermitage. In the end, after hundreds of years of meditation, Purasara woke up because Semar had bit his leg.

When he returned from his hermitage, Purasara met a princess named Dewi Raramis, the daughter of King Begawan Wangsapati from the land of Warta. The princess looked beautiful, but her body smelled fishy. Then Purasara healed her illness and married her, then Purasara ascended the throne in Warta Country.

Once upon a time Purasara went to meditate, even though his wife was pregnant. That's when Sentanu came and try to seduce Dewi Raramis. Dewi Raramis rejected him and followed her husband's hermitage. Sentanu also followed.

At Purasara's hermitage, Sentanu and his brother Purasara got into a fight. Their fights were so intense that they shook the world and made the gods in heaven very worried. Eventually they came down to earth in such great numbers that the day became dark.

As the two brothers continued to compete, Dewi Raramis gave birth to a son who was named Gangga Suta. But Gangga Suta, getting bigger but his accent slurred. Like he once said, “It's really good Kang Semal belkidung, what is the altitude?” Even though, having grown up, his father Purasara and Sentanu were still fighting. Until finally reconciled by Batara Narada.
