Hikayat Nakhoda Asyik is the most famous work of classical Malay literature. This saga was composed by Sapirin bin Usman in prose. Hikayat Nakhoda Asyik is written in Malay with Arabic-Jawi script in a single text and stored in the National Library.
Hikayat Nakhoda Asyik tells the story of the journey of the king's son from the land of Diarul Asyik, Sunkar Bilmalih, who went on a journey to seek knowledge. He disguised himself as a skipper and entrusted all his trade affairs to an old man named Encik Muhibat to trade on his behalf.

On the way, he met Princess Asma Penglibur, who was carried away with her father, King Anta Berduka from the Pasir Berhambur. Both of them were running away from the enemy's pursuit. Because, in their country, Pasir Berhambur a war was going on. After being rescued by Sunkar Bilmalih, together they returned to Pasir Berhambur to fight against the enemy. Finally, the enemy was defeated and Sunkar Bilmalih was married to Asma Penglibur.

After seven months living in the land of Pasir Berhambur, Sunkar Bilmalih asked permission from his wife and in-laws to go to trade in another country. During his voyage, Sunkar Bimalih changed his name to Captain Asyik Cinta Berlekat. Then Capt. Asyik arrived in the land of Diarul Masyhuk. In that country Capt. Asyik visited the village of Masyuk Berdendam which was famous for its women who were good at singing and captivated the hearts of men.

In that village, he fell in love with Asma Tuturan, who later married him. This husband and wife couple was subjected to trials due to the actions of their enemies. Asma Tuturan was slandered by Minister Ganda Titiran and was put in prison, but was later released by Raja Suka Birawan.

Meanwhile, Capt. Asyik was drifting in the sea and was rescued by Encik Muhibbat. Capt. Asyik then returned to his country, Diarul Asyik, to meet his parents. He returned to being Sunkar Bilmalih.

Sometime later, Capt. Asyik sailed back to Diarul Masyuk to pick up his lover, Asma Tuturan. He first stopped in the land of Pasir Berhambur and was greeted by his in-laws and his first wife.

Arriving at Diarul Masyuk, war broke out. Asma Penglibur and Asma Tuturan disguised themselves as men to help their husbands fight, but they were caught and imprisoned. The war ended when Sunkar Bilmalih succeeded in killing Raja Suka Birawan and the Kingdom of Diarul Masyuk was changed to the land of Purani.

Sunkar Bilmalih returned to the land of Diarul Asyik with his two wives. His father, who had welcomed them, then died, so that Capt. Asyik took the throne in his place.
