Welcoming the 496th anniversary of Jakarta City, DKI Disbud and FSRD IKJ held a soft launch of the book "Gion Urban Mythology."

JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Cultural Department (Disbud), together with the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design of the Jakarta Arts Institute (FSRD IKJ), synergized to hold a soft launch event for the book "Gion Mythology Urban" in the Hall Room of the H. B. Jassin Literary Documentation Center, Taman Ismail Marzuki, on Wednesday (6/21). This event is a form of effort to develop and educate art in Jakarta, especially in fine arts and design, as well as welcome the 496th anniversary of Jakarta City.

At the opening of this event, Secretary of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Department of Culture Imam Hadi Purnomo said the activity was part of the Cultural Book Review Year 2023, which became a program of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Department of Culture. He hoped this event could broaden people's knowledge about the life journey of art figures and art academics in Jakarta.

"The DKI Jakarta Provincial Cultural Department strongly supports every form of education and development of arts and culture in DKI Jakarta. We hope that the book "Gion Mythology Urban" that was launched and discussed can expand the treasures of art and design in Jakarta, both for students, artists, and the general public," said Imam on Wednesday (6/21).

The book "Gion Mythology: Urban-Wayang Wagiono: Post-Market Myth" was written by Ananda Moersid. The 350-page book contains the work journey of the late Wagiono Sunarto, an Indonesian graphic arts figure who founded the Indonesian Graphic Designers Association (IPGI) and the Indonesian Graphic Designers Association (ADGI). In addition, he was active in the academic world, including as Dean of FSRD IKJ (1989–1994) and Rector of IKJ (2009–2016).

Not only discussing the contents of the book launched, the event, attended by approximately 150 participants from among students and art lovers, also exhibited some of Wagiono Sunarto's works. The speakers were IKJ Rector Indah Tjahjawulan, Dean of FSRD IKJ Anindyo Widito, author of the book "Gion Urban Mythology" Ananda Moersid, IKJ curator and lecturer Citra Smara Dewi, wife of the late Wagiono Sunarto, as well as IKJ curator and lecturer Mrs. Totot, and his son, Iman Anggotro.
