Wak-wak Kung Traditional Sports

The origin of the game known as Wak Wak Kung is difficult to know. However, what is clear is that the game Wak Wak Kung has been known by the Betawi people since the Dutch colonial era. This game is also known as the Dragon Snake game. In this game, two guards are facing each other and holding hands which are then lifted to form a cone, so that if they are lowered they will trap the players in it. The two guards are likened to the moon and the sun.

The rules of the Wak Wak Kung game are relatively easy, namely after the group or team is divided into two, the two teams will attract each other until they cross the game boundary line to determine whether a group wins or loses. While the game process begins with determining the player (by acclamation) who will be the master or the hen. After that, the two hens will face each other and hold hands, then lift to form a cone (if lowered will trap the player in it). Meanwhile, the other players will line up lengthwise, holding on to the shoulders of the player in front of him to start walking around, through the "aisle" created by the stretch of the hen's arms. When walking around and entering the "hall", usually the players will sing. At the end of the song the hand of the player who plays the role of the hen will go down and trap one of the rows of players that surround him. Then, they will ask the trapped player to vote voluntarily. If the player chooses one parent, he will stand behind it. And so on until there are no more players around the hen. In this way, automatically two groups are formed.

Next, the two hens will stand in a row and hold each other (only one hand) again just above the game boundary line. While the other hand will hold one of the hands of other players (who had chosen). The player will hold the other player's hand so that later a wide line will form with the two hen and the boundary line between them as the center. Then, the two groups will attract each other until one of the teams crosses the predetermined boundary line. The team that can pull another team across the boundary line is declared the winner. If the player still wants to play then the game starts again as before.
