The name of this game was originally known in the Kebayoran Baru area, South Jakarta, precisely in the Rawa Barat Village. Since the Dutch colonial era, this game has existed and it is not known exactly who created it and when it was created. In the past, this game was played by children aged 6-12 years, before finally adults took part in this game. In essence, this game is then widely known. Even though this game experienced a downturn in the Japanese colonial period.

Just like parents in Betawi who are famous for being creative in using what nature provides to meet their needs, Betawi children also inherit the traits of their parents. Betawi children in their creative use of what is in nature or in the surrounding environment to be used as material for their games. In the sack race, Betawi children take advantage of unused rice sacks for playing games. They choose a sack of rice according to their body size and then look for a large area to play. Usually, they will look for land that extends about 20 meters with a width of 3-4 meters, and then this land is divided into five lanes.

The rules are the same as in a running race, but both feet must be in the sack. Participants can walk, and run as long as in the sack, but jumping is the most commonly used way to reach the finish line. The participants must not block or bump into each other. This game often invites laughter because of each other's efforts to win. It does not appear to be competing with each other because fellow participants are often seen laughing at each other. It's normal to fall, get up, stand up, and keep trying until you reach the finish line. The value of hard work is reflected in this game, where all players struggle to reach the finish line, and also sportsmanship because all players accept defeat gracefully. Again, it doesn't matter if you lose or win in a sack racing game, because the excitement and excitement of the participants is the main thing.
