The play of Jaka Sukara is a wayang story in prose that was copied by Muhammad Bakir in Pecenongan around the 19th century. Written in Malay with Arabic-Jawi letters. The manuscript of the play of Jaka Sukara is currently stored in the National Library with Manuscript Code ML-246.

Jaka Sukara's play tells the story of the war between the Pandawa and the Kurawa. The text begins with the story of a priest named Dipa Kusuma who lived on Mount Indrakila. He had a daughter named Ratna Sari who missed and loved Arjuna very much. To fulfill his daughter's wish, Reverend Dipa Kusuma transformed himself into a turtle dove and flew off to find Arjuna. Then, he managed to get Arjuna, then married him to Ratna Sari. Ratna Sari then gave birth to a son named Raden Putra Jaka Tilangin.

Next, Arjuna meditated on Mount Pakembangan. On that mountain, he met the Priest Buyut Kusuma, who also had a daughter named Ratna Sari. Arjuna also married Ratna Sari, daughter of the Priest Buyut Kusuma and had a son named Raden Bambang Sukara.

In another part of the story, it is told that King Parwa Kusuma from the land of Karang Kencana would hold a contest to choose a husband for his daughter, Birantawati. Kings from various lands came to take part in the contest. Even some of them were represented by someone trusted by his kingdom. As Priest Durna came to ask for the son of King Suyudana named Arya Dursasena. Likewise, King Darmaksusuma of Amerta sent Gatotkaca to bring a letter to King Parwa Kusuma to propose his daughter to his son, Pancawala.

Meanwhile, the two children of Arjuna Raden Jaka Tilangin and Raden Bambang Sukara accidentally came to the land of Karang Kencana, which was holding a competition. Whereas, they were both looking for members of the Pandavas, one of whom was his father, Arjuna. However, the two children of Arjuna followed and were involved in a competition in the Land of Karang Kencana.

In the contest to fight for Princess Birantawati, Gatotkaca managed to defeat the soldiers of the State of Karang Kencana. Likewise, Jaka Tilangin and Bambang Sukara managed to defeat the soldiers of the State of Karang Kencana. The three of them controlled the battlefield. However, since they didn’t know each other, they killed each other and died.

Meanwhile in heaven, they heard about the deaths of the Pandawa, namely Gatot Kaca, Jaka Tilangin, and Bambang Sukara. Batara Narada also came down to earth and brought banyu panguripan or water of life to bring them back to life. Batara Narada informed that they were brothers. In the end, Jaka Tilangin was married to Birantawati.

After the contest was over, the three of them went to the land of Amerta to meet the Pandavas. On the way Jaka Tilangin met Arya Dursasena who was furious and took Birantawati to Astina. When they heard the news that Arya Dursasena had kidnapped Raden Jaka Tilangin's wife, the Pandawa was furious. They followed to the land of Astina to take back Birantawati.

War was unavoidable. Many of the Kaurava families perished, some were imprisoned, except for King Suyudana and Priest Dorna who managed to escape. Hearing that his children and grandchildren were destroyed, Destarata as the parent of the Kaurawa in heaven felt hurt. Destarata then descended to earth and transformed into Prince Jatiwitana. With the help of Suyudana and Dorna, Jatiwitana managed to find Semar and asked for the prison key. The Kaurawas who were imprisoned were also released. But after that, there was another war.

The Pandawas, including Arjuna and Bima, was captured by the Kaurawas. Pandu Dewanata as the parent of the Pandawas who was in heaven came down to earth to help their children. He then transformed into Prince Jatiwilaga to help his children and grandchildren. The war that became more intense again caused heaven to be shaken. Batara Guru sent Batara Narada to separate those who were at war.

Jatiwitana changed back to Destarata and Jatiwilaga changed back to Pandu Dewanata. The two then forgave each other and shook hands, then returned to heaven with Batara Narada. After things calmed down, each returned to his country.
