Silat Betawi enlivens the ASEAN Summit Spouse Program at TMII

The Betawi Silat attraction, demonstrated by several girls in the ASEAN Summit Spouse Program at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) on Wednesday (6/9), amazed First Lady Iriana Jokowi and several other first ladies who attended.

Jakarta Cultural Department Head, Iwan Henry Wardhana, said the presentation of Betawi cultural arts, ranging from dance pencak silat to palang pintu, has given a feel of luxury and special memories for the 43rd ASEAN Summit delegates.

"Hopefully, the diversity of dance types and pencak silat displays presented can elevate Jakarta's image as a cultured and global-minded city," he expressed Thursday (9/7).

His continued efforts to preserve traditional arts and increase the number of cultural arts performance activities are his side's primary focus at this time.

"Development takes place measurably and massively in various places and events that are held," he said.

Iwan revealed his party involved various parties in this activity, ranging from culturalists, cultural arts actors, and academics to related community leaders.

Hopefully, empowerment and joint work of all parties can maintain and improve the sustainability of culture in Jakarta.

"One of the ways is by involving many cultural arts studios spread across Jakarta," he stated.
