Protecting Cultural Heritage in Jakarta, DKI Jakarta Cultural Department Registers Ten Works of Communal Intellectual Property and Bappenas Building as Cultural Heritage

JAKARTA - In the context of protecting Communal Intellectual Property (KIK), DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, through the DKI Jakarta Cultural Department (Disbud) in collaboration with the Betawi Cultural Institute (LKB), has succeeded in registering ten cultural works at the Indonesian Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham) in the Promotion and Dissemination of Communal Intellectual Property on Monday (15/05).

Head of DKI Jakarta Cultural Department, Iwan Henry Wardhana, said it is hoped that recording these cultural works can be passed on to the next generation and become a communal identity (belonging to the people). Apart from that, continued Iwan, this is also related to the importance of protecting the cultural heritage of the DKI Jakarta Province to strengthen sovereignty and advance the people's economy.

"This is intended as an effort to protect, preserve, develop, and utilize it to support people's welfare as well as the realization of national resilience," said Iwan in Jakarta Thursday (18/05).

The ten cultural works listed were Gabus Pucung, Soto Betawi, Gado-Gado Betawi, Gambang Rancag, Samrah Betawi, Golok Betawi, Kesenian Topeng Blantek Betawi, Kesenian Topeng Jantuk Betawi, Rias Besar Betawi, and Panggal Betawi. Thus, the DKI Jakarta Cultural Department has recorded 26 Communal Intellectual Properties at the Indonesian Ministry of Law and Human Rights from 2021 to 2023.

Plt symbolically handed over the Communal Intellectual Property Inventory Registration Letter. Head of the Division of Legal and Human Rights Services, Mutia Farida, to the DKI Jakarta Cultural Department, represented by the Head of the Cultural Protection Division, Linda Enriany, and accompanied by the Head of the Betawi Cultural Institute, Beki Mardani.

Meanwhile, the DKI Jakarta Disbud also designated the Main Building of the Indonesian Ministry of National Development Planning (Bappenas) at Jalan Taman Suropati Number 2, Menteng, Central Jakarta, as a DKI Jakarta Cultural Heritage Building. After this designation, the Bappenas Cultural Heritage Building will describe the history of national development planning for the nation's progress in DKI Jakarta's past.

"The designation of the Main Building of the Indonesian Ministry of National Development Planning as a Cultural Heritage Building is important because apart from being the seat of the National Internship Council since 1962, this building was also the seat of the Extraordinary Military Court after the G30S incident in 1966," added Iwan.

This Cultural Heritage Building was determined after going through a review process conducted by the DKI Jakarta Cultural Heritage Expert Team (TACB) on 2 November 2022 and has been stipulated through Kepgub Number 318 of 2023 concerning the Designation of the Main Building of the Indonesian Ministry of National Development Planning as a Cultural Heritage Building on 8 May 2023.
