Betawi poetry refers to three things: the language used, the content or message conveyed, and who delivers it.

Betai poetry ideally uses the Betawi language or dialect. Thus, the expression the poet wants to convey feels more distinctive, representing one culture, Betawi culture.

Here is one of the literary works of Betawi poetry by N. Susy Aminah Azis. She was born in Jakarta, precisely in the Jatinegara area, on November 24, 1937. Her full name is Susy Aminah Aziz binti Haji Abdul Aziz bin Haji Endung Mugnie.

In the roar of an auto sedan

I sat down with unrestrained hunger
Crabs and shells
Eagerly chewed by the jaw
the pleasure was felt in the throat
