Almost every Betawi village has a silat champion. One of the silat styles that was very well known and gave birth to many champions in his time was the Mustika Kwitang Silat.

The Mustika Kwitang flow originates from the Kwitang area, Senen, Central Jakarta. This flow acculturates Chinese martial arts and Betawi martial arts. This combination has made Mustika Kwitang Silat a relatively rigid and respected martial arts school in Jakarta.

In the beginning, around the 17th century, a sinshe (physician) named Kwee Tang Kiam in the 19th century introduced martial arts similar to the Shaolin style, which combined elements of strength, physicality, and speed. He passed on his knowledge to the Betawi people who lived around him.

One of the descendants of Kwee Tang Kiam's student named, H. Muhammad Djaelani, then he preserved Kwee Tang Kiam's silat knowledge by establishing the Mustika Kwitang Pencak Silat school.

Mustika Kwitang was a well-known figure in martial arts in Jakarta then, whose name was H. Muhammad Djaelani.
