Another famous classic Malay literary work by Muhammad Bakir is Hikayat Cekel Waneng Pati. The saga of Cekel Waneng Pati is a kind of heroic or warrior story but is also interspersed with romance. As with other manuscripts, Muhammad Bakir wrote Hikayat Cekel Waneng Pati using Malay with Arabic-Jawi script, on European type paper.

This saga is slightly influenced by elements of Javanese stories, such as Hikayat Panji Kuda Semirang. The saga of Waneng Pati begins with stories about gods. Briefly, Hikayat Cekel Waneng Pati tells the story of Batara Nara Kusuma who has 2 children, a boy and a girl. Both are named Kamajaya and Nila Kencana, or in Javanese stories, they are known as Kama Ratih. The two siblings were destined to love each other.

Even though they are siblings, they both love each other as much as lovers. The gods in heaven are not happy to see the two of them love each other. Then one of the gods in heaven, namely Batara Kala, looked for a way to separate them.

Until finally they were sent down to earth and became the children of King Kahuripan and the children of King Daha. The two of them were separated in two different kingdoms. The two of them later changed their names, Kamajaya to Cekel Waneng Pati and Nila Kencana to become Candra Kirana.

Even though they were separated in two different kingdoms, they always met. Every time they meet, there is a way for Batara Kala to separate the two. But Batara Kala's efforts always failed. Cekel Waneng Pati and Nila Kencana always met and in the end they got married.
