The Hajat Bumi Tradition

The Hajat Bumi tradition is an ancestral tradition passed down from generation to generation. The Hajat Bumi tradition is usually carried out once a year, as a form of gratitude to Allah SWT for the abundant produce of the earth for one year. Hajat Bumi also aims to ask for blessings and safety for all village residents as well as a place for friendship between fellow villagers.

The Hajat Bumi tradition usually combines Betawi and Sundanese cultural traditions with Islamic nuances, as was done by the residents of Pondok Ranggon, Cipayung Village, East Jakarta. The Hajat Bumi event was filled with various arts such as ondel-ondel, Bodoran Betawi, jaipongan and gambang kromong, and panjat pinang (areca climbing) competitions. These events are held with the hope of entertaining the public.

The Hajat Bumi event which was held in Cipayung, East Jakarta is commonly known as Hajat Bumi Kramat Ganceng. This tradition has been carried out for generations in the Cipayung area, East Jakarta.
