Pletokan Game

The Pletokan game is a game made of bamboo that is played like a gun or a rifle. The bullet uses wet paper that is rolled into a small ball. There are also those who use guava seeds as bullets. It is called Pletokan because the sound produced from this game reads "pletok".

The Pletokan game is not only popular among the Betawi people, it is also known in other cultures. As in Sunda, this game is also called bebeletokan, while in Probolinggo and Madura, they call it tor cetoran.

This game is usually played by boys aged 6-13 years. They play this game and act as if they are soldier in a battle, and sometimes, they play this game to imitate movie scenes. With bullets made of harmless objects, make this game very safe.

Pletokan is made of bamboo with a length of about 30 cm and a diameter of 0.5 – 1 cm. The bamboo chosen is strong and old so it doesn't break quickly. Bamboo is divided in two. For the poke, the bamboo is sharpened round according to the barrel circle and the base is made a handle of about 10 cm. Another piece of bamboo, the end of which is added pandan leaves or coconut leaves which are wrapped around a cone so that the sound is louder. Bullets are made from wetted paper, flowers, or water guava valves. The bullet is inserted into the barrel hole until it is solid and then poked.
