Hikayat Indera Bangsawan is a literary work written by Muhammad Bakir in Malay prose with Arabic-Jawi script on September 4, 1894. Hikayat Indera Bangsawan is an adventure story of Indra Bangsawan's courage in saving Ratna Sari Bulan from the crime of a giant named Buraksa.

lndra Bangsawan is the son of Maharaja Indra Bungsu, the ruler of the Kingdom of Kobat Syahri. Indra Bangsawan has a twin named Syahperi. Syahperi was born with arrows, while Indra Bangsawan was born with a sword. The two brothers were equipped with the knowledge of the Koran and had the same great powers.

One night, Maha Raja Indra Bungsu dreamed of seeing beautiful princesses playing a longing reed musical instrument. Next, Maharaja Indra Bungsu ordered his two sons to look for what he saw in his dream. When Indra Bangsawan and Syahperi were in a forest, they were separated due to a rainstorm.

Syahperi arrived in a country called Anta Berahi and managed to save Princess Ratna Sair, until they finally got married. Indra Bangsawan was very sad to be left by his brother in the forest. Arriving at a cave he met a giant grandmother and raised him as his grandson. The giant grandmother told him that the country where she lived was named Anta Beranta, in the territory of Anta Pramana State.

The king of the country, Maharaja Kibar, submitted to Buraksa and had to pay tribute in the form of his children. If the Maharaja of Kibar did not provide his child as food for Buraksa, his country would be destroyed. Maharaja Kibar had a daughter named Princess Ratna Sari Bulan. Every night the princess cried thinking about herself, which would be used as a meal for Buraksa.

Until finally the eyes of the princess Ratna Sari Bulan hurt. His Majesty then ordered the king's nine sons to look for tiger milk that could cure his daughter's illness, but the one who managed to find it was Indra Bangsawan.

After the princess was recovered, it was time for her to become an offering to Buraksa. However, with his supernatural powers, Indra Bangsawan was able to save her and managed to kill Buraksa. As proof, Indra Bangsawan brought Buraksa's eyes, nose and ears to the Maharaja of Kibar. In accordance with his promise, the Maharaja of Kibar married Ratna Sari Bulan to lndra Bangsawan who had returned to his original form. In addition, Indra Bangsawan also met his twin brother, Syahperi.
