The Hikayat Gelaran Pandu Derived Pandawa is the sequel to the Hikayat of the Origin of Wayang. This saga tells of the birth of the five members of the Pandawa family. At the beginning of the story, Maharaja Basukuweti in the land of Widara Kandang had three children, namely Basudewa, Dewi Kunti Nalibrata, and Arya Prabu.

Seeing that Dewi Kunti had already become a teenager, Maharaja Basukuweti intended to hide her on an island to keep her from the eyes of the other kings' eyes. Out of pity for his sister, Arya Prabu gave a book of secret knowledge to read in exile. Every day Dewi Kunti reads the book so that her knowledge increases.

One night when Dewi Kunti was reading a book aloud, Batara Surya came down because she heard her voice. Batara Surya gave Bala Sengara spell to Dewi Kunti, while instructing her not to read the spell when lying down and her hair loose, and not to read it aloud. If it is violated, Dewi Kunti will be hit by disaster.

However, Dewi Kunti later violated Batara Surya's message. As a result, she became pregnant without a husband. When Raja Basukuweti saw that his daughter was pregnant, he was furious that he wanted to kill her, but Batara Surya prevented him. The king realized his mistake. Dewi Kunti gave birth to a child through her ears with the help of Batara Surya. The child was named Karna.

Maharaja Basukuweti intended to make a competition to find a husband for Dewi Kunti. The invitation letter was distributed to the 99 sons of kings. A total of 98 invitations were sent to the sons of the kings next to the kulon or west (delivered by Basudewa) and 1 invitation was sent to the Kingdom of Astina in the Wetan or the east (delivered by Arya Prabu).

In short, Dewi Kunti then married Prabu Pandu Dewanata who later gave birth to 5 children and later became a Pandava family. The five children are, Yudhistira, Bima, Arjuna Nakula and Sadewa.

Hikayat Gelaran Pandu Derunan Pandawa is a wayang story in prose. This saga is contained in a single manuscript which is kept in the National Library. On the first two pages it says: "Written in Pecenongan Langgar Tinggi by Ence Muhammad Bakir Syafian al-Fadli", but this saga is not an original composition by Muhammad Bakir himself. However, it is adapted from a speech by a puppeteer.

The text is written in a European cash book on thick blue and red striped paper, without a paper stamp, measuring 31.5 × 20 cm and totaling 198 pages. The language used is Malay using Arabic-Jawi letters.
The manuscript ends with a poem containing information about the origins of the Gelaran Pandu story and its writing background, as well as some advice to readers. The writer explains that the story is adapted from a wayang play told by a puppeteer.
